Join us to celebrate the winter through various dance master classes, a virtual student choreography showcase, virtual dance parties, and more. This event is free for all ages and experience levels.
In-person participation will be limited. Virtual participation is limitless!

JOIN US IN-PERSON
- Step #1 – Register for one or more sessions (sessions are limited to 9 attendees)
- Step #2 – Arrive at the Arts Center between 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the session.
- Attend Expectations:
- Mask Wearing and Social Distancing required at all times.
- COVID-19 Pre-Screening required. Click here for the Lawrence Arts Center’s COVID-19 Guidelines.
- Dressing Rooms are not available. Dancers should arrive wearing dance clothing under street clothes if needed.
- Dancers should bring a water bottle.
- Caretakers are invited to observe the session via the Virtual Dance Portal.
JOIN US VIRTUALLY
- Step #1 – Register for one or more sessions and obtain the password to the Virtual Festival Portal
- Step #2 – Download Zoom at https://zoom.us/download
- Step #3 – Navigate to the Virtual Festival Portal (requires the password provided during registration) and select which dance session you’d like to join. Plan to log on 10 minutes prior to the session’s start time.
- Attendee Expectations:
- Navigate to the Virtual Festival Portal and join the session 10 mins prior to the session’s start time.
- Attendees will be placed into a “waiting room” and will be let in by the teacher.
- Attendees are to dress appropriately for the session and secured hair away from the face.
- Remove any unnecessary furniture, cords, rugs or other hazards to have an open and safe space to dance.
- Obtain any props or supplies for the class and have ready before class begins. If a ballet barre or something similar is required, make sure that what you are holding onto is secure. A door jamb or wall works better than a wobbly chair.
- In Zoom, on the instructors video click “Pin” to enter full screen mode.
- Mute your own video to avoid disruption.
- Remember to unmute yourself to ask a question.

Description: Taught remotely from Atlanta, GA, join special guest artist Robert Gosnell for an intermediate/advanced master class.

4:45-5:30pm | Stories in Motion
with Stephanie Day (In-Person, Virtual)
Who can attend: 1st thru 3rd Grade
Description: Dancers will explore how to tell a tale … without words. Stories and emotion come to life through the expressive art form of dance, including creative movement and classical ballet technique. Participants will discover how dance and music can paint a picture, set the scene, and beautifully deliver a plot with feeling.

6:30-7:15pm | Festival Hip-Hop Celebration
with Maya Tillman-Rayton (In-Person, Virtual)
Who can attend: All ages!
Description: Get ready to move and groove! You can move the furniture at home or move your feet in person. In this class, participants will follow along and learn several different phrases of house footwork and 90’s hip hop grooves. The goal for this class is to have fun and get moving for the new year.

9-9:40am | Holden Qi Gong: Practice for a New Year
with Guest Artist Michelle Heffner Hayes
Who can attend: 12yrs thru Adult
Description: In the depth of winter, we activate and circulate our internal energy to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the new year from a foundation of vibrant health and well-being. Qi gong (pronounced chee gung) is a movement, meditation and breathing practice that originated in China some 5,000 years ago. Qi refers to energy, while gong translates to “skills.” We will also do tapping and knocking to activate pressure points from traditional Chinese medicine.

10-10:45am | Dancing to Tell Stories
with Elizabeth Newell (Virtual)
Who can attend: Ages 3-5yrs
Description: For creative preschoolers who love to move. Join Elizabeth Newell for a time of imagination in a dance setting. Dancers will use movement to create setting and plot in a story we will build together, while having fun and gaining body awareness in the process!

11:15-12pm | Intro to Classical Chinese Dance
with Wanwan Cai (In-Person, Virtual)
Who can attend: 2nd Grade thru Adult
Description: Experience the movement practice by learning fundamentals of Chinese classical dance. Beginning students can learn the basic positions and movements of Chinese dance.

Description: Discover your secret ability to create movement and choreography in any environment. No prior dance experience required.

2-3:15pm | “within/without/with all”
with Guest Artist Eleanor Goudie-Averill (In-Person, Virtual)
Who can attend: 6th Grade and Up
Description: In this combination Contemporary and Improvisation class, we will explore the internal landscape, habit, relationship to space, and uncharted territory. We will do all of this with curiosity and an openness to expanding our boundaries as dancers. Please bring a journal/paper and writing utensil with you to class. This session will be taught remotely from Connecticut.

4-4:45pm | Salsa Dance Party
with Justin Harbaugh (Virtual)
Who can attend:All Ages
Description: Learn the basics of Salsa dancing. The Salsa basic is quick to learn and we will cover several variations. Learn how to lead your partner, learn how to follow, or just dance it solo. You do not need to have a partner to have fun! Justin has taught ballroom dance to hundreds of people while working aboard Holland America Cruise line and he is excited to teach Salsa to you!
