COVID-19 and the KU Production Season

The University has mandated that the School of Theatre & Dance immediately discontinue all face-to-face instructional activity and public events involving 50 people or more. Per the Office of the Provost, “We anticipate needing to stay online for several weeks,” though University leaders “will reassess the need to continue remote-only instruction every week, starting March 28.” As a result of that mandate, all production activity by the University Theatre and University Dance Company has been placed on hold. Unfortunately, this means that the 2020 Spring Dance Concert at the Lawrence Arts Center has been canceled.

Beauty springs forth. The University of Kansas Dance Company’s spring concert features critically acclaimed guest choreographer Nejla Yatkin, who focuses on how modern contemporary dance intersects with and even serves as a structure for resolving conflict, transforming cultural tensions, and creating human connections. She presents her work “Cotillion C.” Choreography by KU faculty members Jerel Hilding and Patrick Suzeau will be showcased, as will a movement/spoken word piece by professors James Moreno and Santiago Sosa. The evening of dance will include select student work and honor a beloved professor in the Department of Theatre & Dance.
