Real stories, live & uncensored. Stories told live, MOTH–style, with a new theme the second Friday of each month. Never the same story, or evening, twice. Live music by Hello Biplane (Braden Young & Spencer Goertz-Giffen) & social hour starts at 7pm. Slam starts at 7:30 pm. Cocktails throughout. The Second Friday of every month, September to May (except December).
Jody Johnson will be hosting.
If you’ve got a 6 – 8 minute long, true, personal story to tell related to this theme, please come to the story slam and share your story. As a reminder, Free State Story Slam is an adult (age 18+) event. The season runs from September – May culminating in our Grand Slam event in May. Next month’s story slam is on October 4, and the theme is ADVENTURES IN KANSAS.
A couple of changes for this season:
- All the story slams will be held in the main stage theater.
- Unlike in past seasons, will not be voting for audience favorites at the end of the evening. Rather, the host (perhaps along with the help of a few audience members) will select two-three favorites and these storytellers will be invited to be featured storytellers at the season-ending Grand Slam event in May.
- We are going to work on adhering to time limits for each story. A timekeeper will ring a bell (or make some similar warning sound) at 6 minutes and again at 8 minutes for feature length stories and at 2 minutes and 3 minutes for short, impromptu stories.
