Student actors will work as an ensemble to devise their own characters and build a unique storyline. This fast-paced, creativity-driven process will result in the premiere of an original, devised play.
Performed by SYT’s Senior 8th-12th graders.
Directed by Sadie Barbee

Join us for Summer Youth Theatre in the Park! Taking place on our brand new stage at South Park, performances will occur outdoors, in masks, and socially distanced.
Where are the performances?
In partnership with Lawrence Parks & Recreation Department, performances will be held at South Park’s new outdoor stage, located at 1198 Massachusetts Street. The stage is in the far northeast corner of the park, adjacent to the City of Lawrence Law Enforcement Center.
Where do I park?
There are several parking locations in the area. The closest available parking is in the Law Enforcement Center lot, which is east of the park and stage. There is one row of metered parking spots, and the rest of the lot is open and free. Parking meters are enforced Mon-Sat, 9:30am-6:00pm. All parking is free on Sundays and holidays.
The show is free, but donations are encouraged. We do ask that you please make a reservation!
To help us communicate weather and safety information, please make a reservation by clicking on the red button at the top of the page. Reservations are not required but are encouraged.
Lawrence Parks & Recreation Department and the Lawrence Arts Center are partnering in a unique way to offer free events to our community. We are happy to bring free events on the South Park outdoor stage this spring and summer. To keep theatre free and accessible to all, please consider making a donation.
Where do I sit?
Seating is first come, first served. Please arrive no more than 30 minutes before the scheduled start. Properly worn masks are required at all times.
Some of our seating area is reserved for BLANKETS and LOW beach chairs only.
Please observe the areas designated for “Blankets Only,” and please don’t save a seating area larger than a reasonable size to accommodate your group.
Ground-level chairs (low seats or beach chairs that sit flat on the ground) are allowed in the blanket area. If you have questions on our seating policy, please consult the house manager or any member of our front-of-house staff. Look for the sign when you arrive at the theater for direction to the blanket and low-chair section.
What should I bring to the show?
-Something to sit on. Comfortable blankets and towels and low or regular beach/camping chairs are great options.
-Your own food and soft drinks. No alcohol is permitted in the park. And, for safety reasons, please do not bring glass containers.
-Trash receptacles are located throughout the park, but not near the stage. Please plan to walk your trash to a trash receptacle or pack your trash to throw away at home.
– Sunscreen and insect repellent are great things to bring along.
-Please wait to visit with the cast after the show. We ask that only cast, crew, and staff are allowed on and around the stage before and during the performance.
-Basic first aid supplies are located at the sound booth. Please see our house manager or other staff if you need assistance.
-We love furry friends, but please bring only humans to the productions. (Service animals are acceptable!)
-Smoking is prohibited in City of Lawrence parks.
-Please, no flash photography during the performance.
-Please turn your phones to silent mode before the performance begins.
Where are restrooms?
One restroom is available on site. It is located in South Park but across the street in the park on the WEST side of Massachusetts Street. Use the crosswalk and head toward the wading pool area.
