This multimedia exhibition explores nature and our relationship with it. Using photography, sculpture, painting, and printmaking, Jan Gaumnitz fills the gallery with vibrant colors and surfaces that are varied and uniquely hers. As a child, Jan lived on a farm near a lake in Minnesota. This close association with nature had an enduring influence on her life and art. Gaumnitz prefers to be outside “seeing, experiencing, remembering, collecting, and photographing,” than creating a work of art inside her studio. Gaumnitz’s work investigates sources for new or old ideas and challenges new techniques and materials while following basic fundamentals of art.
