Artists from the exhibition Devil Take the Hindmost will talk about their work. Jenny Doore’s sculptures combine bold simplicity with mysterious imagery in a manner that evokes mythology. Hers is a world with nude women who travel on the shells of giant tortoises, a world where a blindfolded woman emotionlessly nurses a bald homunculus in spectacles and a business suit. The figures are robust and idealized in the way of archetypes.  By contrast Andrew Cho’s ceramic vessels are very much of the physical world. The materiality of gritty clay and buttery glazes is the canvas for meticulously detailed drawings of low-wage workers on the job. Setting and employees are depicted warts and all, Realism brought to pottery.
