The 7pm screening has reached maximum capacity, so we’ve opened up an encore screening at 8:30pm.

Local filmmakers Lourdes Kalusha-Aguirre and Marlo Angell capture the story of La Yarda, the housing unit built for Mexican American railroad workers from 1920-51 in East Lawrence in this 15minute film. Memories by former residents and their lineage reveal the lasting impact this special place continues to have on the cultural identity of Lawrence, Kansas. Community panel discussion to follow the screening.

Funding for this program is provided by Humanities Kansas, a nonprofit cultural organization connecting communities with history, traditions, and ideas to strengthen civic life.
