VIRTUAL AUDITIONS

SHOW DESCRIPTION

In partnership with the Lawrence City Band, the Lawrence Arts Center presents The Music Man, Concert Version with a full 17-piece orchestra. Enjoy this classic production, performed by a full cast of students, community members, and professionals. This special concert version centers on familiar show tunes with lots of heart. Don’t miss a production that celebrates our beloved Lawrence City Band in our own very River City.


ENROLLMENT

Enrollment is required for cast members ages 18 and under. The enrollment fee is $110.  Financial Aid is available to those who need assistance.  Please contact Elizabeth if you have questions or need help with paperwork: elizabeth@lawrenceartscenter.org

 

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals will be held at the Lawrence Arts Center and South Park.  Masks will be required at rehearsals. Rehearsals will be held Sunday afternoons, and Monday through Thursday evenings.

 

PERFORMANCES

We plan to perform on the main stage at the Lawrence Arts Center.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

YOUTH ROLES

Tommy Djilas

An attractive, young man from the wrong side of town. He is secretly courting Zaneeta.  Age: 13 to 20

Amaryllis

A slightly bratty piano student of Marion Paroo. Age: 7 to 14 (Vocal range top: E5, Vocal range bottom: C4)

Winthrop Paroo

Marian’s baby brother, who is very shy because of a noticeable lisp. Embraces Harold Hill and the marching band. Age: 6 to 12 (Vocal range top: Eb5, Vocal range bottom: C4)

Zaneeta Shinn

The Mayor’s fresh-faced daughter, who is in love with Tommy. Sweet and outgoing. Appears to be daffy at times. Age: 12 to 18

ADULT ROLES

Harold Hill

Our story’s unsuspecting protagonist. A con man, traveling under the auspices of a salesman, he eventually falls in love with Marian Paroo. Charismatic and charming.  (Vocal range top: F4  Vocal range bottom: Ab2)

Charlie Cowell

A traveling salesman who is on to Harold Hill’s schemes. Tirelessly attempts to prove to everyone the true con-man behind Harold Hill.

Shinn

A blustery politician who is all too “self-important.” Begrudgingly married to Eulalie, he is skeptical of the town rumor mill.

Ewart Dunlop

A member of the quartet formed by Harold Hill with a tenor voice. Ewart is married to Maude Dunlop.  (Vocal range top: F5, Vocal range bottom: F3)

Oliver Hix

A baritone in the quartet formed by Hill. Oliver is married to Alma Hix. (Vocal range top: F4, Vocal range bottom: B2)

Jacey Squires

The highest tenor in the quartet. Married to Mrs. Squires. (Vocal range top: C5, Vocal range bottom: C3)

Olin Britt

A citizen of River City and the bass of the quartet formed by Harold Hill. (Vocal range top: C4, Vocal range bottom: F2)

Marcellus Washburn

Harold’s chummy old friend and former con man, he now lives in River City and is trying to settle down. (Vocal range top: A4, Vocal range bottom: G2)

Marian Paroo

The stuff town librarian and music teacher. She is an attractive young lady who eventually falls for Harold Hill. Stuck up. Curious. (Vocal range top: A5, Vocal range bottom: G3)

Mrs. Paroo

Cheerful and always plotting. An Irish widow and mother to Marian and Winthrop. (Vocal range top: Bb5, Vocal range bottom: Ab3)

Eulalie Mckecknie Shinn

Mayor Shinn’s peacock wife. A serial gossiper and snob, she has trouble keeping her opinions to herself. (Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: D4)

Alma Hix

A “Pick-a-Little Lady” married to Oliver Hix.

Maud Dunlop

A “Pick-a-Little Lady” married to Ewart Dunlop.

Ethel Toffelmier

A comical “Pick-a-Little Lady,” and Marcellus Washburn’s girlfriend.

Mrs. Squires

A “Pick-a-Little Lady” married to Jacey Squires.
