How does the SYT program work by grade?

• 4th graders can choose between participating in the 1st-4th grade camps or the 4th-6th program.  Click HERE for more information about our PreK-K & 1st-4th Grade camps.
• 6th graders can choose between participating in the 4th-6th grade program or the 6th-8th program.
• 8th graders can choose between participating in the 6th-8th grade program or the 8th-12th program.
• Not sure what to grade to audition for? Go by the grade you will be in April 2019.

 

What do auditions look like for each program?

SYT NOVICE PROGRAM: 4th-6th Graders

• There is an ENROLLMENT CAP on each show of 40 students. Your student MUST be enrolled in the class in order to participate.  ENROLLMENT (not audition) determines who participates in the show.
• ENROLLMENT DEADLINES:
  • Jungle Book, KIDS:  Friday, May 28
  • The Myth of Perseus:  Wednesday, July 3
• Auditions are required.
• Individuals DO NOT need to prepare any materials for their audition.
• The audition will be ensemble based.
• The audition will be an opportunity to learn the audition process.
• Auditions will be Sunday, April 28.
• There will be NO callbacks for 4th-6th graders.
• This program will rehearse & perform at the Lawrence Arts Center’s satellite space, Studio 720.
• There is an enrollment fee to participate in the program.

• It is expected that each performer attends every scheduled rehearsal. We are aware that some may have an occasional conflict. It is crucial for us to be aware of your conflicts at auditions so we can cast and schedule accordingly.
• Please note that we have a new SYT Conflict Policy:  Any student that has 3 or more conflicts will be cast in an ensemble role.

SYT JUNIOR PROGRAM:  6th-8th Graders

• Auditions are required.
• Individuals DO need to prepare material for their audition.
• Auditions will be Sunday, April 28.
• ALL students will be called back.
• The cast list will be announced Friday, May 3rd at 5 pm.
• This program will rehearse & perform at the Lawrence Arts Center, in the Main Theater.
• There is an enrollment fee to participate in the program.

• It is expected that each performer attends every scheduled rehearsal. We are aware that some may have an occasional conflict. It is crucial for us to be aware of your conflicts at auditions so we can cast and schedule accordingly.

• Callbacks:  We will not be calling everyone back. If you are not called back, it does NOT mean that you are not cast. We will let you know if you are called back on the evening of Sunday, April 28 and the cast list will be announced Friday, May 3rd at 5 pm.

Notes on Callbacks by Grade

• There are NO callbacks for the Novice Program, Grades 4th-6th.
• ALL Junior Program students, Grades 6th-8th will be called back.
• Senior Program students, Grades 8th-12th:  We will not be calling everyone back. If you are not called back, it does NOT mean that you are not cast. We will let you know if you are called back on the evening of Sunday, April 28 OR morning of Monday, April 29 and the cast list will be announced Friday, May 3rd at 5 pm.

 

What should I prepare for auditions?

Grades 4-6:

• This grade group does not need to prepare any material
• Wear comfortable clothes you can move in
• This will be a group audition
• This audition will be an educational process, where each individual learns the basics of an audition

Grades 6-12 should prepare:

• a monologue (30-60 seconds)
• If auditioning for a musical, prepare 16 bars of a Broadway song with sheet music
• Wear comfortable clothes you can move in
• Arrive 20 minutes prior to your audition time

 

When is the cast list posted?

Friday, May 3rd at 5 pm on the Lawrence Arts Center website and posted in the building by the front desk.
