Costuming the Firebird

In their 2016 Emergence Concert the Lawrence Ballet Theatre will present The Firebird, a time-honored romantic ballet with music by Igor Stravinsky.  In the first version of the ballet, which premiered in 1910, the costumes were created by Léon Bakst and looked something like this:

In the Arts Center’s version, the costumes have been newly imagined and are being constructed from scratch by Beth Dearinger.  They will be worn by Prince Ivan, captive princesses, monsters, and of course, the Firebird herself!  Pictured below is one of the vests for the Guard Monsters, made out of Mop cotton . . . As Beth says:  “it’s not just for mops!”

The concert is on April 15th and 16th and advance tickets are available HERE!
