Community Outreach

While the need for financial assistance in our community continues to increase, available state and city funding for the arts continues to decrease, making it harder to rely on public contributions to the Arts Center’s financial aid fund. We are committed to continuing to meet the financial need of Lawrence and Douglas County residents. We provide access to Arts Center theatre, dance, and visual arts programs to anyone who wishes to participate regardless of income-level or ability to pay through our Financial Aid Fund, and offer many free events and opportunities throughout the year.

We play an active role in community arts, participating in city-wide projects and providing opportunities to artists wherever we can.

We’re also committed to our community partnerships with social service partners, including Boys & Girls Clubs of Lawrence, Big Brother Big Sisters, Douglas County CASA, Douglas County Youth Services, Willow Domestic Violence Shelter, Cottonwood, Inc., VanGo, Inc., and Centro Hispano.

Each summer we take instructors and supplies on the road to Elk County, and then bring students back for a field trip week of art experiences in Lawrence.

Our generous businesses partners, big-hearted donors, and loyal membership continue to help us meet this challenge each year.
