Call for Entries: Apply for Our Local Artist Project Based Residency through February 15th.

From our teaching artists to our Artist INC cohort, from our Artists in Residence to Final Friday exhibitions, we know that Douglas County is rich with exemplary creators. We are thrilled to announce that we have launched a Local Project-Based Residency for 2019 to help support, sustain, and foster the growth of our fellow artists. Our Local Project-Based Residency is open to artists 21 or older living in Douglas County, Kansas, who have lived here for one year prior to submission of materials.

By providing material support for the development of special projects, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and experimental works, the Lawrence Arts Center aims to facilitate projects that would not be achievable within the financial and physical restrictions of the artist’s individual studio and to assist local artists to create works competitive on a national scale.

In addition to visual artists working in any medium, the Lawrence Arts Center Project-Based Residency is open to writers, dancers, or creators working in other performance-based media within Douglas County, KS. This residency is designed to offer expanded community support for artists working outside of academic programs and is unavailable for current students.

Selected artists will receive a stipend of up to $500.00 per project, use of studio space during times established by the Arts Center, and up to 8 hours of private instruction in any studio space or medium. The Lawrence Arts Center houses printmaking, ceramics, and jewelry facilities, performance spaces, and areas for public installation and alternative display solutions.

The Lawrence Arts Center is staffed with experts in each of our program fields, as well as arts professionals, and two annual artists-in-residence in printmaking and ceramics who can prove invaluable resources and energetic studio co-inhabitants for short-term residencies.
