Beyond Summer Youth Theatre

While so much of the School of Theatre & Music’s energy goes into the performance, technical theatre, and internship programs for Summer Youth Theatre during June and July, this summer we will offer additional theatre and technical theatre classes outside of the SYT programming.

If you have ever had an idea to make a script better or wanted to share your own story through theatre, check out the Dare to Devise class. This class for 6th-12th graders will guide you from idea to performance in the one week you have to generate and produce your own show. It runs from June 26-July 1, perfectly sandwiched between the June and July SYT productions. Open to beginning and seasoned actors, aspiring playwrights, and curious people who want to try something completely new.

If you know you will be thinking about the next show to perform in after the summer ends, join us for Audition Masters. This class will help you polish your audition techniques and build your repertoire of audition pieces. Helpful whether you are getting ready to audition for your next school play or looking ahead to college auditions, this class for 6th – 12th graders will take place July 31-August 4.

If you want to hone your skills on scenic finishes in technical theatre design, or if you want to check out the technical side of theatre, take Technical Theatre & Scene Painting. This studio-style class is your chance to dive deeper into scenic work and explore one of the many visual aspects of theatre. Technicians and actors alike, come build your skill set with this class for 6th-12th graders from August 7 – August 11.
