Matthew Lord | The Elevator Project
2019 Project-Based Artist in Residence

Matthew Lord graduated with a BFA in illustration from the University of Kansas and is an illustrator and fine artist. His career milestones include several solo and group exhibitions, in addition to having his work featured in editorial illustrations, lectures, and workshops. Over the years, he has taken on the role of teacher, facilitator, mentor, curator, and storyteller. Matthew’s work tilts towards the absurd while incorporating elements of fantastic realism. Matthew will be in residence July through September, working on The Elevator Project, which will be featured as part of the Print Fair on September 27 & 28th, 2019.

The Elevator Project is an art installation by Matthew Lord that blends printmaking and performance and takes place between the floors of the Lawrence Arts Center. This pop-up gallery will display works with distinct prairie iconography combined with surrealistic flourishes. The artist will be on hand, serving as a guide to explain his philosophy and methods of creating art—all in the span of an elevator ride.

This Project-Based Residency is generously supported by Linda Bailey.
