Adult Fiber Arts: Featured Teacher Allison Sheldon

We’d like to take a moment and welcome new instructor Allison Sheldon, who joined the Lawrence Arts Center family in 2020!

Allison is a textile artist from Denver, Colorado and earned her MFA in Textiles with honors at the University of Kansas in May 2019. While her work spans media from the digital to the tactile, common themes uniting it include radical empathy, being soft, and death acceptance.  She is drawn towards the slow and tedious in protest of rampant capitalism.

Sheldon teaches Sewing Fundamentals, which is currently full, but has another course that will get you stitching in the spring…

Experimental Embroidery – In this session, students will say “yes yes!”” to the “no no’s” of traditional embroidery. You will take embroidery to the limit with unusual materials and unconventional techniques. No experience necessary, all levels welcome.
