Adult Arts: Summer Workshops

In addition to our new Summer Sampler Series, we are also offering several short one- and two-day workshops! If you are short on time, you can still get your art fix with your favorite teachers. We hope to hold these classes in person, while implementing health and safety measures. We will be limiting the class size and communicating with students regarding these new procedures.

Mosaic Workshop with Shanna Wagner – Saturday, August 1, 9:00am-12:00pm

In this morning workshop, students will make a mosaic project with a variety of fun materials including glass tile, beads, tumbled glass, nuggets, broken pottery, and more. No experience necessary.

Screenprint 101: Paper and T-Shirts with Alicia Kelly – Saturday & Sunday, August 8-9, 1:00pm-5:00pm

This two-day printmaking workshop focuses on fundamentals of the experimental process of screenprinting. Techniques inlcuding screen preparation, photo emulsion, working with hand-drawn film, and printing on fabric will be covered along with secrets and tips on how to improve your screenprints. Students will leave the workshop with knowledge of how to print on cotton and experimental papers, mix inks, and transfer images to t-shirts. Grab an old t-shirt, experimental papers, and let’s get printing!

Risograph Workshop with Nicholas Stahl – Saturday, August 15, 9:30am-12:30pm

Join Nicholas Stahl for an informative talk and live demonstration of the risograph printing process. The lecture will include the history of riso, as well as its modern applications and approach. Each participant will be able to design their own 8.5 x 11″ risograph print with up to two colors. These prints will be produced live so everyone can take home a small edition of their art. The Arts Center will provide basic collaging supplies, but it is recommended that each participant bring images they would like to print or collage.

Natural Dyeing Fabrics with Allison Sheldon – Saturday & Sunday, August 15-16, 1:00pm-4:00pm

Natural dyeing is a beautiful, alchemic process that can transform the textiles in our lives. In this class, students will learn several natural dye techniques, including how to make a natural indigo vat, and how to use plants in our community to make dyes. Transform your connection with plants and add meaning to the textiles in your life!
