Teen Visual Arts Winter Studio Classes

Calling all Teens! Register Today for Teen Visual Arts Classes!

Join with artful peers from across Lawrence and beyond in studio classes designed for teen artists. Classes start the week of January 11th.

LAC teen studio classes introduce young people, ages 13-18, to advanced studio techniques and equipment through dynamic projects lead by local artists. Teen studio classes encourage students to connect with others, explore new art mediums, and develop a personal style of visual expression while creating finished artworks.

Winter Teen Visual Arts Classes:

Drawing Loose This special drawing class taught by illustrator and printmaker, Matthew Lord, will expand students’ visual vocabulary and strengthen their artistic confidence through loose experimentation and play. Teen artists will explore a wide array of drawing tools like charcoal, pen & ink, paint sticks and more while learning to embrace quick ideas, spontaneous mark-making, happy accidents, and perfect imperfection.

Clay Sculpture: Re-Wilding Learn advanced ceramic techniques with Lawrence Arts Center Artist-in-Residence, Jonathan Christensen Caballero, while investigating healthy ecosystems. Students will learn to coil, pinch, and build with clay slabs to created textured sculptures of endangered or often overlooked animals.

Teen Art Studio  This exploratory art experience will introduce teen artists to a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, and ceramics. Students will spend two-hours a week with lead Youth Visual Arts Instructor, Katie Alldritt, to compete finished works of art.

Teen Drawing & Painting  Designed for beginners as well as advanced students, this class lead by Katie Alldritt will introduce drawing and painting fundamentals and encouraged students to gain confidence and strengthen their skills. This class will provide guided instruction in color mixing, alternative painting tools, how to refine an idea from a sketch, and so much more.

Metal Making In this teen Metals class, students will learn how to cut, file, solder, and polish metal while exploring ideas for small sculpture, rings, pendants, and more. Lots of beautiful, shiny, metallic creations in your future!

Darkroom Photography…is BACK! After a hiatus due to the pandemic, Lawrence photographer Ann Dean will return to the darkroom to teach students about 35mm film photography. Students will leave this course with extensive knowledge of composition, camera mechanics, film development, and darkroom printing.
