Adult Arts: Guess Who is New for the Fall!

Get ready to FALL for our favorite new teachers! Three more friendly faces will be joining the adult education team to teach painting, fiber arts, and writing. Read their bios, and be sure to click on the class titles to learn more!

 

Blanca Herrada

Blanca Herrada is a queer, Mexican-American artist living and working in Lawrence. Her pronouns are she and they. Her work often focuses on her life experiences, friends, and family. Blanca enjoys working on large scale oil paintings in which she incorporates mixed media to create contemporary pieces that bring traditional and new methods together. Blanca enjoys working with the Lawrence community to share her love for the arts. She strives to make art spaces more accessible and welcoming to everyone.

This fall Blanca will teach Painting Your Truth. Mondays, September 13 – November 1, 6:30-8:30pm.

 

Mona Cliff

Mona Cliff (Aniiih) is a multidisciplinary indigenous visual artist. She explores the subject of contemporary Native American identity and culture through her use of traditional Native crafting methods including seed bead embroidery and fabric applique. Mona earned a BFA in printmaking from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. She is currently working on a commissioned installation for the Kansas City Museum, where she is incorporating seed beads as a way to work in harmony and honor nature’s forms. Mona is married and has 3 children ages 10, 11 and 13 years old. She is an enrolled member of the Gros Ventre tribe (A’aninin/Nakota Nations), and is Frozen Clan (Aniiih) of Ft. Belknap, Mont.

Mona can’t wait to get you stitching with her Fabric Applique class. Thursdays, Oct. 28 – Nov. 18, 6 – 8pm.

 

Danny Caine

Danny Caine is the author of the poetry collections Continental Breakfast, El Dorado Freddy’s (in collaboration with Tara Wray), and Flavortown, as well as the book How to Resist Amazon and Why. His poetry has appeared in LitHub, DIAGRAM, Hobart, and Barrelhouse, and his prose has appeared in LitHub, and Publishers Weekly. In 2019 the Midwest Independent Booksellers Association named Danny “Bookseller of the Year.” He lives in Lawrence and owns the Raven Book Store.

Danny is thrilled to get you exploring language in Adventures in Poetic Forms. Tuesdays, Sept. 14 – Nov. 2, 6 – 8pm.
