Spring Into Motion this Season with the School of Dance

Feb. 12 | USD 497 Ovation! Talent Show Featuring LBT Dancers | 7:00 pm

The show must go on! This is the fifth annual “Ovation!” talent show, and the first to be presented virtually online by the Lied Center. Tickets are not required, but donations are encouraged. All proceeds of the performance benefit the Lawrence Schools Foundation, an organization that provides resources that inspire learning, enrich teaching, and enhance opportunities for all students, educators, and staff in Lawrence Public Schools.

The LBT choreographed dance is among only 12 that were selected for the showcase. The acts, which also include instrumentalists, singers, aerialists, and a filmmaker, were recorded performing on stage at the Lied Center of Kansas. The full show will premier virtually online at 7pm Friday, February 12, on Vimeo. Help us celebrate the incredible youth in our community!

“LBT is once again honored to be selected to perform at the Lawrence School Foundation’s annual “Ovation!” talent show.  For the USD 497’s Virtual “Ovation!” this year, LBT filmed two sections from Whims, a new work choreographed by Jerel Hilding. LBT dancers are excited for the opportunity to perform on the beautiful Lied Center stage and to connect with other talented youth artists in Lawrence.”

– Cynthia Crews, Artistic Director, Lawrence Ballet Theatre

March 6 | Tristian Griffin Dance Company Presents Alinea | 5:30 – 7:30 pm

In a life full of transitions, we spend a great deal of time learning how to delegate and navigate through them. Yet rarely do we talk about the inception of those conversions. The characters in ALINEA explore “the beginning of a new idea,” and start to discover that it is not always about the process or how you finish. It is about how things are set into motion in the beginning.

The final showings will be based on the A/B rotation schedule for classes that exceed the 10 person capacity. Caregivers are invited to attend virtually, via Zoom, through the Virtual Dance Portal during your child’s last in-studio class. If your student participates virtually, they will be showcased along with the students attending in-person.
