A Souper Bowl so Successful It’s Going into Overtime!

Thank you to the to the artists, shoppers, and our sponsor, T-Mobile, for making this year’s Souper Bowl a resounding success! In the interest of safety we decided to punt the usual plan of serving soup, and instead went to a new “Buy a Bowl Fill a Bowl” format. Your generosity helped us collect 477 pounds of  groceries for Just Food, which will translate to more than 400 meals in our community!

Just Food Executive Director Elizabeth Keever echoed our gratitude in appreciation for the generous donations made during the event and underscored the importance of helping others right now.

“We are so grateful for the Lawrence Arts Center and its generous donors who made this year’s Souper Bowl such a success,” she said. “With food insecurity at an all-time high in Douglas County, events like these help us bridge the hunger gap for those experiencing food insecurity in our community.”

Our corporate sponsor, the T-Mobile Truck Team (#RoyalMagenta), gave away swag bags for shoppers to carry their newly purchased bowls and raffled off two 58” televisions that the winners took home in time to watch the Sunday football game!

This year 28 local artists designed beautiful pieces of art for the Platter Project, which raised more than $6,000 through our online bidding platform. All proceeds will support the Lawrence Arts Center’s visual arts programming.

But the clock hasn’t yet run out on this year’s Souper Bowl!

For more than 20 years the Souper Bowl has been a community affair where people gathered to raise much-needed funds for the Arts Center. Though this year’s event was different because of the pandemic, our supporters enthusiastically responded, and nearly 600 handmade bowls were purchased through online and in-person shopping.

If you missed out and would still like the chance to make a purchase, we have extended the availability of a few more bowls in our online store. Again, all funds raised through the sale will be used for updates to our studios including new safety equipment for artists, students, and teachers.

Thanks to everyone for participating! We especially want to thank the artists who volunteered their time and talent to create the beautiful ceramics in support of our programs. From bowl-makers to platter-painters, the Arts Center would be nothing without the ARTISTS!
