Adult Education: Get to Know the Paper Arts!

Dayon Royster, our Printmaking Artist-in-Residence, is giving a free demonstration at 2:30 pm Saturday, December 12. Get to know all about printmaking and Dayon’s process! Intaglio with Dayon Royster

Saturdays, January 16 – March 6, 2 – 3:30PM

Intaglio printmaking comes from the Italian word intaglione, which means to engrave or cut, and is traditionally carried out on a metal plate. This class will cover a variety of techniques, from basic line etching and dry-point to more advanced techniques such as aquatinting, multicolor single plate printing, and chine-collé.

This class has a non-refundable supply kit fee included of $40. Instructions on how to pick up the kit will be sent out before the class starts. Students in this class will be able to sign up and access the studio outside of class.

Screenprinting with Dayon Royster

Saturdays, January 16 – March 6, 4 – 5:30PM

Learn the basics of the popular printmaking method silkscreen. Students will study both drawn stencil methods and photographic stencils that can be used to create multiple layer color editions on paper or fabric.

This class has a non-refundable supply kit fee included of $40. Instructions on how to pick up the kit will be sent out before the class starts. Students in this class will be sign up and access the print studio and graphics lab outside of class.

Wall to Wall with Dayon Royster

Saturdays, March 27 – May 15, 2 – 3:30PM

This course will venture into different methods of making tiled prints using different printmaking techniques for the purpose of creating wallpaper. This course will also touch on different ways to take your creativity to the streets using printmaking to create ephemeral works outdoors.

Monoprinting with Dayon Royster

Saturdays, March 27 – May 15, 4 – 5:30PM

Monoprinting is a spontaneous medium perfect for those wanting to explore color, mark making, color separations, tone, texture and more. This class will introduce ghost imaging, alla prima, stenciling, and viscosity rolling, and use a variety of tools from brushes and rollers to the hand of the artist.

Observational Printmaking with Matthew Willie Garcia

Wednesdays, January 13 – March 3, 6 – 8:00PM

This course will utilize direct to matrix printmaking: dry point etching, mezzo tint, collagraph and monotype screen printing. The students will create prints using foundational observation techniques such as landscape, still life, portraiture and figure drawing.

Mokuhanga: 36 Views of Lawrence with Matthew Willie Garcia

Wednesdays, March 24 – May 12, 5 – 7PM

Inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai’s 36 views of Mt. Fuji, this class will use Lawrence and the nature that surrounds it to draw influence for art making. The course will be a hybrid class where we explore Lawrence and draw, carve, and print by the light of our computers.

This class is a hybrid class that will meet in person and virtually. Students will also be able to sign up to access the print studio outside of class. Please note that the supply kit fee included for this class is $50.

Analog Design in a Digital World with Nicholas Stahl

Tuesdays, March 23 – May 11, 7 – 9PM

Break free from the screen and explore physical mediums and techniques used by graphic designers throughout history. With a heavy focus on collage and experimentation, this virtual class will help students to create hand made pieces of graphic art by learning how to source elements, plan layouts, and implement their vision.
