Storybook Drama Encourages Learning Through Expression

Local actor Kayla Sandusky believes that being involved in the arts is very important, especially for the young and very young! Now in her fifth year at the Arts Center, this fall Kayla is teaching virtual Storybook Drama classes for children ages three to six that encourage learning, self-expression, and creativity. Chosen stories address topics, themes and emotions to help young children express themselves while learning valuable lessons!


Windows

Saturday 9:30-10:30am / September 12

Join us to act out and explore Julia Denos’ book Windows, where a boy goes for a nighttime walk through his neighborhood and sees brief glimpses of his neighbors in their windows. Some are dancing or hugging or playing piano. This book invites conversation about our connection to our community and neighbors while we are social distancing.

My Friend is Sad

Join us to act out and explore Mo Willems’ book, My Friend is Sad, an Elephant and Piggie adventure. Elephant is feeling down one day and Piggie is determined to do all sorts of silly things to cheer him up. This book playfully investigates the roles of sadness and friendship in our lives.

Julián is a Mermaid

Join us to act out and explore Jessica Love’s book, Julián is a Mermaid, where a boy sees three women spectacularly dressed up on the train and daydreams about looking just like them in his own fabulous mermaid costume. But what will his Abuela think of the way he sees himself? This book is a beautiful celebration of love, individuality, and identity.

Hank’s Big Day (The Story of a Bug)

Join us to act out and explore Evan Kuhlman’s book, Hank’s Big Day: The Story of a Bug, where an adventurous little bug spends a day with his best friend Amelia. The book is a delightful journey that focuses on nature, curiosity, and friendship.
