Tell us about your work! With what age ranges do you work? Where have you taught? Which topics?
Jamie Sandomire: I am very grateful to have started my journey as a teaching artist primarily at Childsplay in Tempe, Arizona, where I began as an education intern in 2008 as a sophomore at Arizona State University. After that, I fell in love and taught in their education programs, both onsite and in schools for nine years, teaching kids ages three to fifteen, in a wide variety of classes from story-themed preschool creative drama to their one week musical theatre marathon classes, to their conservatory program. Since moving to Chicago in 2017, I have worked with young people ages newborn to sixteen with companies including Dream Big Performing Arts Workshop, Windy City Performs, Emerald City Children’s Theatre, Adventure Stage Chicago, and Kerfuffle! Right now, I teach early childhood music and movement classes at Musical Magic for newborn to four year olds and their caregivers.
Andria Devlin: Our licensed early education program at the Lawrence Arts Center is a multi-aged half day program. In our program this means that each class contains twenty 3-5 year olds. The exception to this is our kindergarten program, which only has 5 and 6 year olds. There are three teachers in each of our classrooms. I currently teach two preschool classes. One class meets Mon/Wed/Fri mornings, the other Tues/Thur mornings, both classes are 9:30am-12:00pm. After my teaching day is over, I shift my talents to assist with the administration of the program.
