Art is for everyone and inspiration is everywhere around us. We have multiple classes taking this notion to the streets of Lawrence in the coming months. Each week a new site in Lawrence becomes our classroom as we write or draw our way around town
In Writing Lawrence with Will Averill, students will use Lawrence landmarks as their classroom. This companion class to Drawing Lawrence will visit locations around town, and focus on creating dynamic and local flash fiction based on landmarks and locals.
Write Poetry in the Wild with Mercedes Lucero. Mercedes will take you to different environments in Lawrence to use for poetic inspiration. Poetry is everywhere around us and sometimes all it takes is for us to get out of the classroom and immerse ourselves in the world.
Drawing Lawrence is quickly becoming one of our most popular drawing courses! We are offering two special sessions with Kent Smith:
Drawing Lawrence: Faces and Indoor Spaces in an adventurous course focusing on sketching the character of each place and the characters in each place. Kent will work with students individually to develop skills in gesture, perspective, lighting, color, and speed portraiture using various landmarks around Lawrence as the classroom.
Celebrate spring life in Drawing Lawrence: Blooms and Botanicals. Visit gardens and greenhouses all over town to draw emerging plants. Study light, plant forms, and explore color with watercolors and various other drawing media.
All courses are currently enrolling for the Winter and Spring sessions. Art is for everyone, which is why financial aid is available to make our classes accessible. To learn more stop in, and you too can find yourself out and about making art!
