Fall is here and we have the first part of our season to share with you!

 

Story Slam                                                                                                                                   September 13, October 4, and November 8

Real stories, live & uncensored. Stories told live, MOTH–style. Live music & social hour starts at 7 pm. Slam starts at  7:30 pm. Cocktails throughout. The Second Friday of every month, September to May (except December).

 

Spill, Squish, Crunch: a sensory laboratory for 0-6 year olds                                                                           September 28 & October 5

Get ready to spill, squish, and crunch your way through the Sensory Laboratory, a world that explores the five senses through tactile and sensory experiences. Designed in our Play Lab series, elements in the Sensory Laboratory were developed by local artists with children ages 1-6 and their families as artistic partners in the process. Join us in a curious investigation of how our world looks, feels, sounds, tastes, and smells in this latest Theatre & Dance for the Very Young production.

 

The Band That Fell to Earth KC: A Tribute to David Bowie                                                                                                September 21

Powered by up to 13 of Kansas City’s most prominent rock, blues, jazz, and folk musicians, the band will perform two sets chronicling David Bowie’s famed career, and feature Lawrence-based guest vocalists. This full-scale 940 LIVE! production will provide a connection between the cities’ vibrant music scenes. A portion of ticket sales will benefit Douglas County food bank, Just Food.

 

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka                                                                                                                                          October 11-13 & 17-20

The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale.

 

Ghosting Lawrence: A Theatrical Tour of Downtown Haunts                                        October 25-27, October 30-31, November 1-2

Join yarn-spinning Ric Averill and the occasional spirit dancing and singing their way through the rich haunted history of Lawrence. Based on authenticated hauntings, Averill spins a tale of a town transported, burned, scarred, Phoenixed, uplifted and yet still haunted by ghosts from Quantrill’s Raid through the mid-1900s.

 

Madeline’s Rescue                                                                                                                                                                 November 2-3

Based on the book Madeline’s Rescue by Ludwig Bemelmans, directed by Cynthia Crews and performed by Lawrence Ballet Theatre. When Madeline’s antics land her in the river Seine, a stray dog comes to her rescue.

 

The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet                                                                                                                           December 13-15 & 20-22

This production is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s original story and set in Lawrence, Kansas during the Civil War era. This newly envisioned ballet production tells the story of how Drosselmeyer and Clara liberate the Nutcracker from the clutches of the Mouse King. This family production is for audiences of all ages. Be a part of this winter seasonal favorite! Auditions are Saturday Sept. 7.

 

Finally, fall classes are starting in the School of Theatre and Music! You can enroll online, by phone, or in person at the front desk.
