September 7: Auditions for The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet 2019
Sponsored by the Thomas D Galloway Family and TCK- The Trust Company of Kansas
Calling all dancers in grades 1-12 and adults who enjoy movement to audition for Arts Center’s The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet. This production is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s original story and set in Lawrence, KS during the Civil War era. This newly envisioned ballet production tells the story of how Drosselmeyer and Clara liberate the Nutcracker from the clutches of the Mouse King. Be a part of this winter seasonal favorite!
Pre-register by filling out the audition form before September 7. CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT THE AUDITION FORM. Attending the audition is FREE, and no prepared materials are required. Dancers should arrive wearing appropriate dance attire and be ready to move. In order to be considered for a role, applicants in 1st-12th grade must be actively enrolled in a dance class at any dance school/studio. There are no requirements for adults to audition.

Meet Our New Faculty!
Claire Buss is from from Salt Lake City, Utah and is currently a junior at the University of Kansas, pursing a BFA in dance and a BSE in physical education. This is her first time working at Lawrence Arts Center, and she couldn’t be more excited to join the team. Claire is teaching Jazz I this fall.
Claire’s goals for the fall semester: This semester I hope to inspire my students to want to continue dancing, help them appreciate dance as an art form and a creative outlet, create a positive environment for learning, and to teach an enjoyable class, and stretch their jazz skills!

Krisa Farrington is an Overland Park native and a KU graduate. She received her BFA in Dance in 2015 and since has gotten her 200 hr Yoga Teacher Certification. Since graduation, Krisa has been involved with various auditions, performances, summer camps, and regular dance classes at LAC. Krisa is looking forward to working with the little movers this season, to lay a foundation of confidence and love for dance.
Krisa’s goals for the fall semester: My goal for preschool dance is to have fun and build confidence in little movers! The studio should be a place that students look forward to coming because they can release energy, build on movement skills they already have, and feel relieved knowing we are exploring together. In class we will take normal exercises and turn them into imagination. For example, our theme may be a garden party, where we will explore critters, plants, elements and how they look and move. Children will learn how to isolate parts of the body and understand different qualities. Students will learn how to fill their own personal space and look for availability in the room if they find themselves in a fellow mover’s space. All in all, we will build our movement tool box and improve the skills associated with them.
