Lawrence Arts Center teaching artist Ben Wills will be partnering with Bert Nash Community Mental Health for his upcoming class, Social Stitchery. The free six-week class will meet in a unique combined craft circle and social forum to create winter scarves for donation while discussing local poverty issues and strategies. All materials will be provided by the Arts Center, and participants in this dynamic class can look forward to learning a variety of knit and crochet stitches. Can’t make the class, but would like to participate in the project? The Arts Center will be accepting donations of yarn and knitting and crochet needles. Drop off your extra supplies at the front desk for collection.
This fall, the Lawrence Arts Center’s School of Theatre & Music has presented groundbreaking original works with productions of Rethink: I Am a Veteran and dwb (driving while black). This spring, the original Ric Averill production The Runaway Orchestra will continue to bring fresh interdisciplinary work to the stage. In preparation for the show, artists can join Printmaking Artist in Residence Johanna Winters to craft wearable puppet sculptures for theatrical costuming. Enroll in Runaway Puppets this winter to learn about large scale construction, a specialty of Johanna!
