December Events in Youth Visual Arts

Detail from Serotonin Vision Quest, intaglio print, by Artist in Residence Johanna Winters

Hang 12 and Johanna Winters Collaborate with USD 497:

In November, Artist in Residence Joanna Winters guided high school art students in developing an edition of prints inspired by techniques from her studio and participants’ personal struggles. Opening Friday, November 30th, works from the project will be displayed at Edward Jones Financial in Other Eyes, a juried group show. Included works were curated by Lawrence Art Center’s HANG12 youth exhibitions board, and will be on display through December.

Generate some STEAM with Illusionists:

While the fall semester is drawing to a close, there’s still an opportunity for a week of after-school fun in the STEAM education based class Illusionists. Running from Monday, December 5th to Thursday, December 9th, elementary students will conjure an array of arts-based activities from optical tricks to performative feats. We’ll be pulling rabbits out of hats, and every art material from our cabinets, to design, build, and act in a unique magic show! Grab your deck of cards! The curtain goes up:
