Ah, the new school year… We remember getting excited about back to school shopping, new notebooks, and (hopefully?) new cafeteria offerings. Looking over our fall catalog has us nostalgic for 3rd period art class. Here at the Lawrence Arts Center, we’re still enrolling for fall sessions, so even if Pizza Friday never comes, some time in the studio is always a treat!
T-Shirt Screenprinting
Looking to get your art out in the world, or rather out on the street? Join printmaker Brandon Keenan in T-Shirt Screenprinting! Using photosensitive stencils, you will learn to transfer your personal drawings as bold and graphic designs on the portable canvas of clothing. Our print studio offers the same technology made popular by contemporary artists from Andy Warhol to Shephard Fairey!
Throw on the Wheel
This 12-week session will provide you with the skills to form functional ceramic ware and leave the class new mug in hand. Cups, bowls, and other cylindrical forms will be explored in conjunction with glazing, trimming, sanding, and decorating your finished pieces. All levels are welcome, from absolute beginner to beyond.
Darkroom Photography
Images will unfold as if by magic using traditional film photography and 35 mm cameras. Develop snapshots into fine art with lessons in composition, art history, darkroom development, and camera mechanics. Film, photo paper, and chemicals are provided by the Arts Center. Need a camera? Ask about availability of cameras when enrolling.
We challenge you to write a script, create a storyboard, direct, act, film, and edit a movie…all in six weeks. Develop abilities in written storytelling and visual narrative with filmmaker Christie Dobson. We dare you!
Artist Studio MS
A new offering this fall, Artist Studio MS was designed to allow middle school students in alternative education or home school to engage in a range of art mediums to find their own personal style and preferred materials. This 12-week class will culminate in the display of a final piece from each student.
