Raven Harper received her BFA in Textile Design from the University of Kansas. She is currently an instructor at the Prairie Moon Waldorf School where she enjoys teaching children how to knit, crochet, sew, and felt. Due to the Waldorf School’s emphasis on using natural materials, Raven’s handwork class has focused on using wool, cotton yarn and plant dyes. 

When I am not creating work to be taught to others, I mostly enjoy crocheting and knitting animals. My inspiration comes from my love of nature- specifically, the animal kingdom.  My process is quite simple — I pick up needles, or a hook, and I begin working. I usually find myself ripping out work. When I finish a piece, I recreate another and another until I find the right shape and gesture I am searching for. This process seems to work for me, and to be honest, the process of crocheting and knitting is a pleasurable feeling. I love fiber arts but mostly I love teaching fiber arts to others.

Felting, July 9-13, 1-4pm
6th – 12th graders will work with felt to create sculptural and functional forms. Explore the vivid world of fiber arts through felt.

Soft Sculpture Creatures, July 16-20, 1-4pm
6th – 12th graders will upcycle old sweaters and clothes into simple stuffed animals and imagined creatures.
