Welcome Lawrence High School students to the Arts Center printmaking studio! As a part of a collaboration between resident artist Tressa Jones and USD497, students are creating a print run that will be featured at a downtown gallery for the January Final Friday. Tressa presented and demoed her work in several classes at both Lawrence High School and Free State High School inviting students to participate in a design challenge. Students were given the challenge to create a series of prints that fit three criteria: utilizing translucency, conveying a message through abstraction, and displaying multiples in a modular way. You can see some of Tressa’s work at tressajones.com. Over 150 students will create a series of prints. Through a critique and curatorial process, the top pieces will be chosen by HANG12, the Arts Center’s youth curatorial board, and installed in a show for the Final Friday in January. More information to come; for now, back to the printmaking studio!
