The Lawrence Arts Center and Douglas County Senior Services have partnered to bring Creative Aging home to Douglas County! A national trend, “Creative Aging” is the practice of involving older adults in hands-on, professional and educational arts programs. The movement’s focus is on developing social networks as well as skills with the goal of providing opportunities for meaningful creative experience in visual, literary and the performing arts. Creative Aging is about possibilities, in ideas and approaches about aging, that fully embrace the truth that everyone continues to grow, learn and contributeat all stages of life.
The newly established Douglas County Senior Services Scholarship for the Arts is designed to support Creative Aging in Douglas County. Available to students 50 and older who demonstrate financial need, scholarships are given to provide opportunities for Douglas County seniors to create, learn about and participate in arts experiences at the Lawrence Arts Center. The scholarship is awarded as a sliding scale based on household income. Applicants need to supply proof of age and Douglas County residency, and complete a financial aid application.
