Whether it’s the New York Times, NPR, or USA Today, everyone’s talking about Maria Bamford’s new Netflix series, Lady Dynamite. Jumping between flashbacks and present day, the semi-autobiographical show helmed by Pam Brady (South Park) and Mitch Hurwitz (Arrested Development) has critics raving.
“Lady Dynamite” has its own bizarre-sincere voice and its own dream logic. It’s something else, in a good way: a journey to the center of Ms. Bamford’s mind that dives through fantasy after loopy fantasy and emerges with something real.” – James Poniewozik, New York Times
Bamford was awarded the American Comedy Award for Best Club Comic and included in Rolling Stone’s list of 50 Funniest People. You can hear her voice in countless animated series including BoJack Horseman, Adventure Time, Legend of Korra, Puss in Boots, and PBS’s Emmy-winning series Word Girl.
On Monday, June 20th, see her live onstage at Liberty Hall as the opening event of the Free State Festival with opener Jackie Kashian. Maria Bamford will perform stand-up and then screen a short film and participate in a Q&A.
