Many families have enjoyed and supported the Arts Center over our 41 year history, but it would be very hard to find another family that has so continuously and passionately supported the Arts Center like the Edmonds family.   From the time the doors opened in 1975, Steve Edmonds and Chris Wolf Edmonds started bringing their children Jason and Brynn down to enjoy participating in all the Arts Center had to offer in its earliest days.

Today, the love of the arts they developed at such an early age is still a part of their adult lives – Brynn is an amazing artist and photographer, and Jason excels at woodworking and singing, and has also been a regular contributor of work to the Art Auction.  Steve and Chris have brought their grandchildren to the Arts Center on numerous occasions as well, continuing on for a new generation of Edmonds to love and support the arts!

When the first auction was held in 1981, Chris was the featured artist and Steve served as the very first auctioneer.   Chris continued to participate by being a donating artist every year since then – and this year is no different.  If you are lucky enough to get the winning bid for one of Chris’s pieces, you know that you become part of a very exclusive club – one that receives a handmade card of one of Chris’s beautiful pieces of work for Valentine’s Day.  Many of us have collected these cards and display them as cherished art from this talented lady!

For too many years to count, the Edmonds family has also been financially dedicated to the Lawrence Arts Center – the largest commitment has come in the form of being the Signature Sponsors of our Benefit Art Auction, now for a second year in a row.  Along with the additional support Don and Teresa Duncan and their family, Edmonds Duncan Registered Investment Advisors gift allows the auction to continue the tradition that was started with Chris and Steve so long ago – bringing the very best in local, regional and national art to the Lawrence community for an event that generates enough income to support our exhibitions program for an entire year.  Thank you, Chris and Steve, for giving your children and grandchildren the gift of the Lawrence Arts Center for so many years, and thank you from the entire community for Edmonds Duncan’s support of our auction.  It is deeply appreciated!
