FINAL FRIDAY exhibitions & performing arts

Join us for the annual USD 497 Public School show, featuring works selected by public school art teachers of K-12 students from across Lawrence, and works by Jenny Doores and Andrew Cho in an exhibition titled Devil Take The Hindmost. Then stay for an evening of dance with the production Emergence, presented by the Lawrence Ballet Theatre, the only pre-professional ballet company in Lawrence.

INSIGHT Art Talk: Jenny Doores & Andrew Cho

Artists from the exhibition Devil Take the Hindmost will talk about their work. Jenny Doore’s sculptures combine bold simplicity with mysterious imagery in a manner that evokes mythology. Hers is a world with nude women who travel on the shells of giant tortoises, a world where a blindfolded woman emotionlessly nurses a bald homunculus in spectacles and a business suit. 2015/16 Ceramics Artist in Residence, Christy Wittmer, returns to Lawrence to give an INSIGHT Art Talk about the fifteen months she spent in China on a Fulbright grant. She spent the first three and a half months in Beijing studying Mandarin and exploring the city. INSIGHT Art Talk: Shiyuan Xu

2017/18 Ceramics Artist in Residence Shiyuan Xu is originally from Hangzhou, P.R. China and has an MFA in ceramics from Arizona State University. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Shiyuan is a 2017 Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist and has been awarded multiple prestigious artist residencies.
