John McCaughey holds a BFA in printmaking from Rhode Island College and his MFA in printmaking from Ohio State University. John is interested in knowing more about the things people frequently ignore during their daily “point A to point B” routines. He works with commonly overlooked objects, such as advertisements, public bulletin boards, QR codes, surveillance cameras and abstract painted shapes that are used to conceal graffiti. Together, he sees these objects as part of a peripheral canvas; the colorful blur of unimportant information that becomes the backdrop of an urban experience. He utilizes these things as tools to begin a dialogue between the viewer and his work.
